Silence & Stillness Residential Retreats

– Hosted by Marion Young and Team –

Take some time for yourself and discover a profound depth of rest and connection to your inner stillness through the experience of being silent for an extended period of time.

Through the practice of being quiet ourselves, we can ‘enter the silence within’ in a conscious and sacred way, honouring the long spiritual tradition of using silence as a gateway for spiritual and physical connection and rejuvenation.

Join us at St Cuthman’s retreat house, set in 20 acres in the beautiful Sussex countryside. We will have exclusive use of this lovely Edwardian house with its abundance of indoor and outdoor space, including its very own lake and gardens, perfect for walks and silent reflection.

“The care and attention and love that was put into this retreat was felt and very appreciated. I loved all of it, and especially valued the freedom and light structure, I enjoyed and gained something from all the activities offered. The experience from the whole team was seamless and so valuable to me.”

Connect to your own inner wisdom

Your Soul is always attempting to guide your life along the highest path of your divine purpose, through intuition and synchronistic occurrences. These promptings are usually very subtle and quiet, and often we are too busy to hear or respond to their inner guidance.

Entering the silence creates space for your Soul’s wisdom to shine through

Here you can also come face to face with yourself, and in the willingness to just be with your own thoughts, without the addition of other people’s opinions, an inner strength and peace can develop that gives freedom beyond words.

This weekend retreat is best suited for you if you already have some experience of meditation & being ‘still’

“The silent retreat more than met my expectations! I thought it would be calm and soothing but wasn’t expecting to leave with such a deep sense of peace. I loved the group evening meditations – inspiring with a huge sense of community.”

Alison Lawson

During the 3 night Summer Retreat…

Going into silence for this extended period of time enables a profound deepening of the many benefits of being in silence, such as deep relaxation and rest, a quieter and illuminated mind, spiritual connection, inspired realisations, increased creativity and a greater sense of well- being.

As well as all the activities that take place on the weekend retreats, there will also be optional self-enquiry circles every day, individual themes for self-enquiry, meditative music evenings and more.

About St Cuthman’s

St Cuthman’s was originally established by the pioneering Florence Allshorn in the 1950s, as a haven of peace and tranquillity for women missionaries to recover and restore their energy after working abroad. After she died this peaceful and comfortable Edwardian house was passed to the Catholic Diocese of Arundel and Brighton where it has continued as a retreat centre, and where you can still feel the legacy of Florence’s vision, with its deeply nurturing energies and palpable stillness within the oak paneled walls.

A chance for some tech-free time

To reap the full benefits of being in silence, we will disconnect from all technology, including your phone, for the duration of the retreat.

We will be offering a safe place to look after your phone for you so it is not far away, and you will be able to give your family and friends 24hour contact details to use in the event of an emergency.

“Should be called a retreat from the noise of the mind and external forms into the infinite stillness within all of us. Deeply grateful for this truly enlightening experience.”

Stephen Dixon

Why is silence so powerful?

Traditionally it has been religious orders that have recognised the power of silence, believing it to be the simplest path to God. Silence was considered to be ‘golden’, with its own vibration, higher and purer than anything else that life has to offer an earthly being.

Entering the silence creates space for your Soul’s wisdom to shine through. Here you can also come face to face with yourself, which is not always a comfortable process. But in the willingness to just be with your own thoughts, without the addition of other people’s opinions, an inner strength and peace can develop that gives freedom beyond words.

‘Great minds seek silence and solitude. It is here that the largest problems of life are worked out. The silence offers an ever available and unlimited opportunity for awakening the highest conception of truth.’

Charles Haanel – The Master Key System – 1929
