I Nearly Lost It!
If you are sensitive to energy and have a big open heart, it is very likely you are deeply touched by others’ suffering. This is a wonderful thing in many ways, but also a challenge as you may stray into other people’s business too readily and lose your own boundaries and connection to your own inner guidance.
The Universe gave me a powerful and salutary teaching this week about this subject.
It all started with a handbag, a handbag that had been left on a supermarket trolley by an elderly lady after she had loaded her car with her shopping. I was waiting in the customer service queue when the lady arrived in a distressed state, asking me to move aside so she could ask the assistant if her handbag had been handed in. ‘Of course’ I said, but when the assistant said that nothing had been found, the lady rushed off back out of the shop.
My heart went out to her, and for some time while I wandered round the supermarket my mind considered all the implications of what losing a handbag would involve, and also how inconvenient and stressful that would be.
After finishing my own shopping and loading up the car, I stopped to fill up at the supermarket petrol station. When I went to pay… no handbag!! And with a cold sinking dread I realised I must have left it on the trolley in the car park.
Rushing back to the car park (and praying) I searched the trolley area, no handbag. So, back to the same customer services desk where I had encountered the distressed lady, and asked the same assistant the same question… only this time the answer was ‘Yes’, my handbag had been handed in.
Thank you God. Hmmm… instant manifestation
I was shaken and suitably chagrined, and also thankful that this lesson came without the stress of losing my handbag for long. I was also grateful for the reminders that straying from the present moment and focusing on another’s pain, even briefly, is not a good idea, and that the more conscious and aware I become, the more vigilant I have to be. The Law of Attraction is always working, amplifying everything, including what I don’t want to attract into my life.
So, as you can imagine, I have stepped up my present moment awareness practice and I’m being even more vigilant about what I allow my mind to focus on. It has also given me a big buzz of excitement though, because I love getting proof through my direct experience of how concepts like ‘The Law of Attraction’ or ‘being present’ actually work in practice.
This is why a meditation and self-awareness practice is so essential; without one, the observer in us is absent and unaware of the implications of our thoughts, words and actions.
